First Annual Mid-Atlantic Volunteer Conference - April 20th - Baltimore City
The 1 st Annual Mid-Atlantic Volunteer Conference: Serving the Community, Serving the Nation is an event co-sponsored by the Center for Social Concern at the Johns Hopkins University and the Midshipman Action Group at the United States Naval Academy . JHU's Center for Social Concern and USNA's Midshipman Action Group are campus community service organizations that coordinate the efforts of over 40 community outreach programs. The conference will allow all attendees to meet people from the Mid-Atlantic area to discuss current community service projects and to collaborate in future endeavors. Together, local college and community organizations strengthen their programs and expand their volunteer efforts. The conference will also encourage the establishment of proactive programs and service-based learning curriculum in schools and organizations. This conference aims to develop strong, proactive leaders who are actively involved in serving their community and nation.

If your organization or institution wants to provide materials to be distributed at the conference, please note this while registering and prepare to bring approximately 200 copies. All conference materials will be placed on tables for attendees to take and use at their own discretion. There will NOT be any formal presentations by any representative or student from a local organization or institution during the conference. This is a day for volunteers to get to know one another, learn how they might come to better cooperate to create better opportunities for our region, and get a free breakfast and lunch topped with some local wisdom. History
2007 will mark the 1 st Annual Mid-Atlantic Volunteer Conference. This year's topics include: identifying the needs of major cities and communities in Maryland, creating conscientious citizens, and utilizing the networks in achieving the goals discussed in the conference.
Accommodations/Meals
As the conference is for a single day, hotel accommodations will not be provided and guests will return back to their organization upon conclusion of the conference. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided at the conference. If any attendee has special dietary needs, please note it on the registration form.
Arrival and Departure
Attendees are responsible for their own transportation to the Johns Hopkins Campus in the city of Baltimore . USNA will provide bus transportation for any midshipman and/or academy faculty from the academy to the Hopkins campus. Transportation subsidies are available for those who need them. Contact the Johns Hopkins Center for Social Concern for more information.
Material
We request every organization to provide materials about their community service program(s) to be distributed to every attendee at the conference. Please bring all materials the day of the conference.
Recommended Clothing
For our military guests, please wear Summer Dress Whites, or your service equivalent. Civilian guests, please wear business casual.
