Forwarded information on Volunteer Certification and Funding Opportunity
Greetings!
We have forwarded these items of interest to each Maryland Volunteer Center

1. Are you looking for a way to strengthen your professional credibility? Do you want to demonstrate to others your commitment to excellence on the job?

If so, now is the time to begin earning the CVA (Certified in Volunteer Administration) credential, originally developed by the Association for Volunteer Administration and now sponsored by the Council for Certification in Volunteer Administration (CCVA). CCVA offers this unique program to recognize practitioners in the field of volunteer resources management who meet specified standards as measured through a testing process and peer review of a written portfolio. Deadline: March 1, 2007 (Early Bird Registration Deadline: January 1, 2007).

For more information go to: http://www.cvacert.org/

2. Funding Available for AmeriCorps*National Programs

Is your organization addressing a critical community need? Could gaining a dedicated, enthusiastic team of committed individuals help your organization do even more? If so, you are invited to explore the AmeriCorps National grant opportunities funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service. AmeriCorps programs provide opportunities for individuals – AmeriCorps members – to serve communities across the country.

The Corporation for National and Community Service is an independent, federal grant-making government agency whose mission is to support people and organizations in using citizen service as a strategy to meet critical national and community needs and to foster an ethic of civic responsibility.

Funding is available for organizations interested in applying for AmeriCorps*National program grants. AmeriCorps*National grants are made directly by the Corporation to public or private nonprofit organizations, institutions of higher education, government entities within states or territories, Indian Tribes, and consortia of the aforementioned. There are five types of AmeriCorps*National grant opportunities available:
• AmeriCorps*National Direct
• AmeriCorps*National Professional Corps
• AmeriCorps*National Planning grants
• AmeriCorps*National Education Award Program
• AmeriCorps*Indian Tribes

The deadline for AmeriCorps*National Applications is February 15, 2007. Detailed information, including the Notice of Funding Opportunities and the AmeriCorps Application Instructions, can be found on our website at: http://www.americorps.gov/for_organizations/apply/national.asp.

Technical Assistance Conference Calls for AmeriCorps*National Applicants will be held in November 2006 – January 2007 for all interested applicants. The conference calls will address the application requirements for all of the AmeriCorps*National Grant Opportunities listed above. If you have questions, please call 202-606-7508.
